What and Why are people still printing?

Posted by Zandalee Naude on Sep 4, 2019 12:00:00 PM

It’s all good to manage print costs and have a strategy for going digital, however can you answer the question of why your people still print and what are they printing? We have found that understanding this can actually uncover areas of inefficiencies within your business.

Typically, businesses identify areas of inefficiencies by means of manual processes or escalations within a department or from clients, due to tasks being missed or not attended to. This is a top-down approach where the business would then identify the inefficient process and reach out to consultancies or technology firms to assist with the automation or digitization of this process.

One Planet Living - Sustainable Water

Posted by Sarah Fernandes on Aug 14, 2019 12:00:00 PM

South Africa is considered to be a water scarce country.  In fact, we are ranked as the 30th driest country in the world, receiving an average of 450 mm rainfall per year compared to the global annual average of 870 mm.  Increasing population growth and climate change is sure to exacerbate this, as we have already witnessed with the severe droughts experienced in Cape Town in 2017/2018 where “day zero” was terrifyingly close to becoming a reality.

Challenges Financial Institutions face in their Print Environment

Posted by Chasthi Grant on Jul 10, 2019 12:10:07 PM

The South African Financial Institutions are well known, as ambassadors for the country.  Their contributions in sport, art and education has made phenomenal strides in improving revenue and reputation, a mutual benefit for both the institutes and the country.  The major financial institutes share similar challenges within the core industry.

These are namely:
  • Growth and market-share of the business and their portfolios,
  • Creating or improving on their customer experience ie. customer relationship,
  • Conquering new revenue streams, and last, but not least
  • Digital Transformation of their legacy systems and moving towards a paperless environment

Despite the future vision the above challenges offer, printing is still a major focus despite its challenges for the majority of the financial institutes.  Even with the launch of the newer digital platform banks (as seen in the media - Tyme and Discovery Bank), many South Africans are very much loyal to the traditional financial houses.  Ergo, printing is and will still be a requirement for many years to come.

Are your printers vulnerable to a Cyber Attack?

Posted by Riaan Jansen van Rensburg on Jul 3, 2019 10:00:00 AM

This question often comes up, and the answer to it is certainly yes. Your printing devices connect to nearly every device in your corporate network and most printers are not even designed with cyber security in mind. If hackers are hungry enough for information they will use any possible way to get “inside’’ your network. Their intent is to get access and control of your printer and from there your network. If they have access to the network, they will have control over your data.

The hackers want data that contains sensitive information that they can use to harm your company financially or place malicious software on your network to bring your business to its knees, harming your company’s IT infrastructure.

Matter Costing - How Print Management Software Can Raise the Bar

Posted by Zandalee Naude on Jun 5, 2019 12:00:00 PM

Having a print management software to recover matter billing from your clients is no longer a pleasant option, but rather an essential part of your law firm’s IT toolkit.  However, although most firms recognise this need and the importance of this revenue stream, most aren’t sure what the best software is and how to go about it.

What Is Your Ecological Footprint?

Posted by Sarah Fernandes on May 29, 2019 12:30:00 PM

As our business explores the concept and principles of One Planet Living, it is important to understand the science behind the strategy – ecological footprint.  Ecological footprint is the only metric that measures the demand we put on nature, and what nature can give us in return.  In other words, it measures how fast we consume resources and generate waste in comparison to how fast nature can absorb our waste and generate new resources for us to use.

The Future of Printing in Schools

Posted by James Tooley on May 15, 2019 12:00:00 PM

I asked my son, who is in Grade 9, which medium at school he prefers to read and study from.  Without hesitation he said a book or on paper.  His first reason was clear, he feels less distracted when reading from a book, while an e-book or screen always remains a temptation.

The accessibility to games and social media is real and one can’t help but be distracted even if on some subconscious level.  His second reason was less clear, but in summary, he prefers the hands-on physical side of turning pages and having ease of reference when using a book to study.
